The "Everyday" List
Running the Bitter Root Humane Association takes a professional staff, committed volunteers and lots of STUFF - everyday supplies used to care for the animals and maintain the shelter. If you are looking for a way to help the shelter, consider donating needed supplies. Donations are tax deductible, and you can drop items off at the shelter during regular business hours.

It ain't glamorous, but these are things we ALWAYS need:
- Liquid Laundry Detergent
- Dishwashing Liquid
- Paper Towels
- Bleach
- Toilet Paper
- Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner
- Surgical Gloves
The "Real" List
Here at the BRHA we're looking to the future. Maybe we're trying to divert a disaster like a boiler meltdown, or we're thinking of better ways to help the animals of Ravalli County. Either way we can always come up with things the shelter needs beyond the everyday supplies that keep us going. So we asked the staff "If the sky is the limit, what do we REALLY need at the shelter?"
Here's what they came up with
- Repairs to the Boiler - This old girl has seen better days. Check valves and O-rings are failing. There is either no hot water, or the water is too hot. Help us bubble new life into our boiler. Estimated cost $300.
- Fencing Materials - Help us secure a third play area for the dogs. Estimated cost $200.
- Sponsors for Staff Training Events - Keep our staff on top of their game by sending them to continuing education and training seminars. The field of animal sheltering is progressive and dynamic with new techniques and ideas emerging all the time. From behavioral training to disaster preparedness, there is always something to learn. Estimated cost $300-1000.
- New Medical Collars - These are like the old "lamp shade" collars that prevent dogs from pestering their wounds, only better. They're smaller so they fit into the kennels. Estimated cost $150.
- Mobile Adoption Center - As many shelters are discovering, going to community events with adoptable animals gets results. Recently, the shelter in Kalispell refurbished a motor home as a mobile adoption center. The "Beagle" not only safely transports animals and volunteers to community events, but it serves as the "ultimate billboard" while parked in front of the shelter. Mobile adoption units can also be transformed into emergency relief vehicles, bringing supplies, temporary housing and medical care to animals involved in disaster situations.
Help the BRHA obtain a "Beagle" of our own. We need a functioning motor home, a creative remodel to make room for animal transport berths, and a fun paint job. Estimated cost? Hmmm...well...Kalispell did it for $6,000.
Help animals in our community AND get rid of stuff you don't need. Donate items on our Real Wish List. Make sure to contact the shelter and check the status of the list before donating. As always, donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
