Common Questions

Call your vet first. If there is no answer or if it is after their business hours, call the Pet Emergency Center in Missoula (406) 829-9300, located at 1914 S. Reserve Street.  They are open 5:30pm – 8am Monday through Friday and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday. Here is their website: https://www.emergencyvetmissoula.com

Our shelter has no law enforcement authority. Please report all animal abuse to the Ravalli County Sheriff’s non-emergency dispatch phone number (406) 363 -3033; be prepared to provide details such as the address of the animal in question, etc.

Please call the Sheriff’s non-emergency dispatch phone number (406) 363-3033; be prepared to give details such as the address of the situation, etc.

Please keep the animal safe at your home until the shelter is open, if possible.  Call the shelter and leave a message giving details of the animal you found including date found, location, type of animal, description, etc. along with your contact information.  The BRHA provides a lost and found database and may know who is looking for the animal. We also have a community-driven Facebook page you can post on to let others know:  Bitter Root Animal Lost & Found.  Bring the animal in as soon as the shelter is open so we can scan them for a microchip and we can keep the animal at the shelter, if you choose, until the owner is found.

We’re here to help you and can explain your options, please call us at (406) 363-5311.

The BRHA accepts all animals at no charge.  Since we are funded by donations we do always appreciate a donation if possible, but it’s not expected.

The Bitter Root Humane Association, in partnership with many generous businesses and private donors, has food and, at times, pet supplies available to anyone in need.  Please visit our shelter, located at 262 Fairgrounds Road in Hamilton, during normal business hours to pick up what you need.
